Comment: We visited Full Moon in May of this year. It was our third visit to the Maldives and definatley the best. The experiance started on the transfer boat, when we were given a very welcome bottle of water and face cloth to wash hands and face. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. I liked the cocktail parties, thought that it was a nice touch. My husband being a South African was delighted to meet the head chief who came from the same country. Our best moment had to be when we were unexpectantly upgraded (complimentary) to a water bungalow....what a treat. Once again THANK YOU Full Moon for making our holiday memorable.

Comment: My husband and I have been visiting the full moon for the last 12 years and the refurbishments now is fantastic, this year we went twice, in January and in March when we visited baros for the day and stayed in a water villa, the water villas at baros are beautiful and we enjoyed our short stay even meeting old staff who used to work at the full moon, the restraunts are excellent, but even with this we still prefer to stay at the full moon in the water villas there as we find the atmosphere there so much better, whether it is because we know so many of the staff now at full moon I do not know. We holiday at different countries the rest of the year but I always find the Maldives being like paradise and I never get bored of going there, I would recommed it to anyone especially the Full Moon.

Comment: Ian and I will be returning to Baros in November 2006 for our third visit - and this time it will be our honeymoon! We would be very interested to hear more from people who have stayed on Baros since the upgrade, in terms of the restaurants (types of cuisine available, approximate prices and any recommendations), and general views on the upgrade as a whole. We took the decision to stay in a deluxe villa since we did not want to have a TV in the room. Are any deluxe villas better situated than others? My favourite part of the island pre-refurb was the stretch where villas 107 - 112 were situated. Do any 'Old Barosians' know whether there are now any Deluxe villas on this side of the island? Any other information/views on Baros would be gratefully received. I am very much looking forward to returning to the island - it's been four years far too long! Lisa, I hope you have a lovely trip to Baros in October and if you find the time to lodge a posting on this site on yo!

Comment: Thanks Tim for making us even more excited about our return to Baros in October! We stayed at Full Moon last May, as Baros was closed. Another lovely island, with lovely staff also, but as it did not have a 'house reef', it did not tick ALL our boxes as Baros does, but still a great destination!

Comment: We've just returned from a week at Full Moon and a week at Baros. We visited Baros 6 years ago and loved it then and loved it even more this time. Its completely re built but definately for the better. The island has a lovely peaceful, private feel to it now and is more up market than before but not snobby. Baros Villas hightly recommended. Very friendly staff too

Comment: We have just returned from the Full Moon on Saturday and I can honestly say apart from the weather (one day of full sun, three days constant rain rest cloudy), it was one of our best holidays ever. Yes there is building work going on and you can see it from certain parts of the island but it is DEFINATELY not intrusive and whilst part is cordoned off it is done with a bush fence. There were 200 people staying whilst we were there but you would never have thought it the most you saw at any one time was around 25 at breakfast. We had a water bungalow which was sheer luxury I would say that it is definately a 5 star island we were very impressed. The spa opened on the Friday before we left. Prices are around $22 for a bottle of wine $4 beer, $3 water we went B&B only and felt this was the best decision as we could eat in any of the restaurants and the food was superb would say it came close if not actually a la carte. Main courses ranged from $9 in the cafe to $25 in grill and Thai. To sum up we went there with heavy hearts having also had a letter from Kuoni and having decided to brave it out but we were definately impressed and I think those of you who have elected to change islands have made a big mistake. We also were speaking to people who had been there five years running and they said the improvements were excellant and much better than how the island previously was. We would go back anytime and cannot recommend it enough.

Comment: We have just returned from the Full Moon, and have to say it was without question the best holiday ever. The island is beautiful, the food amazing, and the staff were fantastic. We were informed of the ongoing work, but decided to not to move, and we were both very glad that we didn't. On arrival we were told that as compensation, they had upgraded us to a beach bungalow, which was fantastic news. As the spa still hadn't been finished, we were told that if we wanted any treatments they would be organised over at Kurumba, and they would transfer us over and back free of charge. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them, and everyone on the island is friendly and always says hello. We stayed full board, so only ate in the main resturant. There is a set menu, but as we don't eat meat, we thought we were going to have a problem. Our waiter Moosa was great though, he organised special meals for us every day, and my mouth still waters at the very thought of the food we were served. The noise from the ongoing work as minimal, and to be honest not as intrusive as we had anticipated. All in all it was great. If what you want is peace and tranquillity this is the place to be. I did go over to Kurumba to use the spa which was beautiul, but the island seemed an awful lot busier than Fulll Moon, and I was glad to return. We left onthe 22nd, and the spa was almost finished, the staff had arrived which I'm sure means that it will be open within the next week.

Comment: We have had another superb week on the Atoll Explorer and cannot recommend this cruise highly enough. The Captain and Crew are so fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. Wished we had booked for 2 weeks not just one. We then went to Dhiggiri for a week. Very small Island and the water bungalows are not over the water , though they do have a ladder at the back into the sea!!. The food was great but it is mainly Italian guests and most of the entertainment is explained in Italian with very short translations!! If Jane and Kate read this - I've lost your email addresses, so please write.

Comment: Stayed at Full Moon 28th Oct - 11th November 2004. Very disappointed as half of island closed off due to construction works. Work late into the night, disturbed sleep, and lots of noise. We had not been informed of the delay in the refurbishment/total rebuild, prior to us getting there. Should be a great place to holiday in about 5 or 6 months time, but I would not advise anyone to go there until work is finished. Staff and food were excellent, no complaint there.

We have booked 15 days from february 27. and look forward to have some fantastic days snorkelling etc. Reading the positive comments of Debbie & Mark, UK and the negative from Ian, Glasgow we look now at the USD 8.500 we now have paid for this trip. We belive that you should be positive when you visite a new country so we trust that the positive attitude of Debbie and Mark is the correct one. We trust that we will have some excelent holidays on this beautifull laguna. Best positive regards to all.

Comment: Hi all, we're just back from a week in Baros and it was absolute heaven! The weather was fab, the food was fantastic, the staff were sooo helpful and the resort was pure bliss. Apart from lazing by the sea and snorkelling in the house reef (fab!!!) we only managed one trip and that was a catamaran trip to go snorkelling on the sand reef. It cost us $50 and was due to be for 1.5hrs but we were out for 3.5hrs for the same price! Amazing snorkelling and well worth the trip. The spa is divine and a the sunburn soothe treatment was just what the Dr ordered for my hubby after too much sun and too little suncream! Baros isn't cheap and we spent $1000 in one week (argh!) but with the current exchange rate that works out at just over £500 which was fine. Prices: Beer $4, Water $3, Cocktails $9.50, Wine $20-30, Catamaran Trip $50, 1/2 day island hopping by Speed Boat $44, full day island hopping by dhoni $38.50, Lunch $30-50 for 2 with drinks, spa sunburn sooth treatment & neck and back massage $100 pp. Renovation work is due to start in Feb 2005 and will go on for 8-12mths during which the resot will be closed or so the staff told us. Baros is for couples who love diving, snorkelling and a very quiet & relaxed time. When doing a survey about possible additions to the resort guests requested that a pool NOT be added as it would be too appealing to families and much as I love kids Baros would be runined if it was overrun by noisy children. It's just not that kind of place. Peace and quiet will prevail! Any questions, just ask!

Comment: Have got to say, I agree pretty much with Gary and Janet. Visited Laguna Beach for one day and, having stayed over the years at other places in the Maldives, and cruised around many more, it really wasn't my cup of tea. There is a lot of concrete about, you can see burning going on at a nearby island, there is a lot of commercial shipping passing by, it is too close to the airport and, if it is possible in the Maldives, it gives the impression of being a bit too commercialised for my taste. As I've said before on this site the Maldives is certainly not just about Universal resorts - there are a lot better resorts out there, e.g. some Italian run. However, compared with just about anywhere else in the world it is still the Maldives, and as such I wouldn't swap the Maldives for anything. Think of it as a 'safe' starter, then the next time you go - and you will - you can try something a bit more out of the way, and out of the ordinary!

Comment: Maurice and AngieB - We had a good time on Laguna Beach however it was not what we paid for, and some couples did leave the island that arrived with us. However we paid £3800 for two weeks all inclusive in a water bunglow and to be honest it was not worth it. Kuoni did the proper thing on our return and give a large amount of our money back, we also had a standard room for one night and this was ok. I would however say the island does require some TLC and i would check to see when this will be happening.

Finally, on the half board basis, are you confined to one restaurant or is this baord applicable to all restaurants. Thanks again for the info so far!!

Comment: Hello there, just replying on behalf of my wife (Hannah). It only rained on the day we arrived in the Maldives and allthough the reports were for rain we didn't see any! We used factor 15 sun cream most of the time, with the occasional bit of factor 25-30. To put this in context, I am generally quite resistant to the sun and usually use factor 8. Despite the Factor 15 I had some redness (not quite sunburn) which is very unusual for me. Also We spent almost all our time in the shade or underwater. There is a gym, free to use and open most of the day. There is the opportunity for excursions to Male, a trip to some of the other islands, fishing trips, a "sport fishing" trip (very macho!) and of course the diving trips to other dive sites in the Maldives. The house wine in the main "Turtle" restaurant is 11 dollars for a caraffe (2/3 of a bottle). not sure about bottle prices as the pre-dinner cocktails were too nice! There was live music on 3 days of our stay (should have been 4 but one was cancelled) and a show of Maldivian dancing. Phew! Hope that helps.

Comment: We will visit Baros from Nov 26 and are really looking forward to 2 weeks in paradise (judging from the pictures..). I have some questions for Hannah from Leeds who has just been to Baros. When I check the internet for weather reports it says rain every day and yet you say you had nice weather, does it means it rains every day but very shortly or? When you say bring sun screen higher than what you had planned, how high are you talking about? Can you sit in the sun at all? How much is a bottle of wine at the restaurants? Are there any excursions from the island? What about entertainment, sports etc, is there a gym? What about the guests, mostly English or other nationalities? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Anybody out there who will visit Baros at the same time as we?? See you soon!

Comment: - we have been to the maldives 4 times before going to Laguna Beach - we stayed in a water bunglow - Our problems with the island are these - The room was not up to stand of other resorts (Lily beach and Meeru) you can see the airport and a Island were they seem to burn rubbish on the horizon. - Also the part of the beach which is for the water buglow guest has a concrete wall on one side about two feet height - The staff are good the food in the main restraut is fair - however the grill is amazing but will cost you $100 a visit with wine. - The main jetty is made of concrete -the deck around the pool needs to be replaced and was dangerous - We complained got 3 meals at the Grill free of charge and on our return to the UK was given over half our money back (booked a nice week in Antigua 5star all in) - to sum up nice Island but needs a refit to become first class again - booked to goto Filitheyo next year - www.janetandgary.com

Comment: My husband and I have a quotation to go to Maldives arriving at Full Moon Resort on the 10th February 2005 - from Dubai. I've heard that Full Moon is undergoing some refurbishment, which is due to be finished this month. We are from Portugal, but have travelled all over the world with Kuoni (usually booking in London) and so far everything has been fantastic. We are putting a lot of expectation in this trip to Dubai and Maldives. Having read comments from guest that have been in Universal Resorts with Kuoni, can I be assured that I'm not going to travel half the world to find an hotel still with building work going on? I rather have an opinion right now, while I don't make a settlement to Kuoni, than having a bad surprise arriving to Full Moon. It would be very professional to give me a correct information, so that if necessary I change hotel. Regards Ermelinda Gomes

Comment: Dear All, I too have received a letter today from Kuoni that renovations are still ongoing at the Full Moon. Like Sam's entry into this Guest Book (see below), I have been informed that half the island will be cordened off with banging, tiling and sanding from 0800-2300 however there will be minimal disruption to the holiday! I am due to fly out 5th December for 14 nights and I have been given the option to change my holiday, which I feel that I must opt for I am sorry to say.

Comment: We have just returned from the most wonderful holiday on Baros to celebrate our anniversairy. Everything was perfect, the stuff that dreams are made of and if you are going you will have a wonderful time - you dont have to worry about anything. The weather was fine, mostly very hot and sunny. Be careful not to get burnt as i did onece even though i was sitting in the shade! The resort provides complementary beach towles and sunlonungers for each geust staying on the island. The beaches are beautiful, with soft white sand and quete a few sun shades dotted around. We stayed in a beach bunglow which was very tastfully decorated in natural materials and had a stunning four poster bed. we found the rooms spacious and very comfortable and oftern enjoyed tea on our private veranda. We went half board wich was a good option as the food was superb espically the maldivian buffet night, the breakfast must be seen to be belived. The other resturants also looked good, i dont think you can go wrong which ever option you choose but half board is deffinalty cheaper With regard to money, cocktails are approx 9 dollars, and a beer approx 4 dollors, lunch at the lagoon resturant was approx 10 - 20 dollors per person, a cola was approx 3 dollors from the mini bar. You sign for everyting you buy ie food, spa, shop etc and pay at the end, either traverler cheques or credit card, you can check the amount you have spent each day if you want You tip at the end of your holidy, approx 1-3 dollares per person per day for your table waiter, 1-3 pp for the gentleman you does your room, 1-3 for each bag carried etc. It is of course discretionary but the service is excelent and so friendly yet professional Some of the highlights for us were the diving, snorkeling and spa experiences. you can hire snorkel, mask and flippers from reception for 4 dollars per day. The water is so clear and you can see hundreds of beautiful fish including baby sharks (perfectly safe) sting rays, and our neighbour saw a turtle. My hasband signed up for the squaba dive course - (see web site for details and prices ) which he abaolutly loved. The instructors are brilliant and really look after you. We both also enjoyed a couple of treatments in the wonderful spa run by three fantastic balanise ladys. The treatments are suerb and the waterfall plunge pool experience ( called degrees ) is not to be missed! Prices range form 60 dollors for an hours treatmant/massage 90 dollors for 1.5 hours and 140 dollors for 2 hours plus . Highly recomed the facial, fruit wrap, and massage treatments. You can also have a treatment wiht you partner which is very romantic. Cant think of anyting else that would be usefull but very happy to give more info if anyone has anymore questions. Oh yes, take higher sun screen factor than you think you will need and a mosquito spray for the early evining as although they spray the island ther are a few mostiques. The rooms are sealed and air conditioned so they dont come into the rooms. Have a great time

Comment: Hi All Having read the comments about Kuoni I'm afraid to say that this bad service / late info happened to me the first time we went to the Maldives. I booked with Hayes & Jarvis for our honeymoon & had no problems at all, but I have now gone back to Kuoni because we wanted to go to Baros. I know there are works there, & we are booked into a water bungalow from 29th Jan to 13th Feb for my 30th birthday. Has anyone heard anything negative about overbookings or works at this time? I am paranoid about my holiday not happening given everyone else's & my own experiences.

Comment: Gosh!! I've read all the recent notes and can only sympathise with everyone who has experienced problems with Kuoni. We have stayed at Baros twice, it's an incredibly beautiful Island and a wonderful holiday. Each time we have had problems with Kuoni. They are very disorganised and offer no customer care. I have the e-mail for someone in the operations team there who has handled my complaint from last year, let me know if you want it!!!!

Comment: We too were only told 4pm on Friday, whilst packing up from work that we cannot go to Full Moon and offered Boduhithi which is a poor option 'medium' class resort compared to Full Moon so we have been forced to cancel as no other option available. We are so upset today as should have been on the 7pm flight. I think it's apalling that Kuoni/Universal didn't advise sooner about the over booking - they MUST have known more than 48hours before. How much compensation has anyone else out there been offered? We are still steaming as should be on the way to the airport now. :( (Can't wait to go back to work on Monday..not..thanks Kuoni). Surely someone on the resort could see that things weren't going to be finished and could advise more than 48hours before. Best go and unpack now then.

Comment: To Maurice of England. Hubby and I stayed at Laguna for a week in May and it was lovely - don't change your minds !! We went BB and wouldn't recommend AI. The main buffet restaurant was ok but not a patch on the a la cartes, especially the Chinese and Palm Grill (with some tables on the beach)We spent a total of £290 on food, £111 on drinks, including mini-bar in room. We did not over-indulge nor did we skimp, just had exactly what we wanted. Hope you have a wonderful time. If you want any more info please contact janesamjones@aol.com

Comment: Can anybody give me advice on whether to go all inclusive or B & B. We have been offered an upgrade to all inc for £45.00 per person per night and although this includes drinks it is only local ones. Can anybody give me an approximate cost of meals and drinks so I can make an informed decision as don't want to end up paying twice if the drinks are dreadful but have heard a Gin & Tonic is £8.00? Also very concerned to hear comments that Laguna is not up to scratch perhaps somebody can advise me while I have still got time to change my mind and book elsewhere as this is for s very special occasion. I would appreciate any advice.

Comment: just been told today 5/11 that we cannot stay at fullmoon ,we fly out on 7/11 i think that kuoni are out of order we booked this 12 months ago to celibrate our 25 th wedding aniversary and we are not happy, they have had time to keep us informed then we could have changed our plans to some were more suitable,we should have been in a water bungerlow, but it appears that 25th dont count nor does a 12month advance booking?,what a poor show, this is no way to treat people.

Comment: Simon I fully agree with you we are due to go to Full Moon on 20th Nov with Kuoni and have been kept fully informed of the work going on we too have elected to stick with it. It isn't Kuoni's fault that this work is occuring and I am sure if it was really bad they would pull us out. It isn't their fault that the flight has changed either they have no holding over the airlines. Whilst this is our first time with them they have impressed me so far and I have heard nothing but good from colleagues who have travelled with them previously.

Comment: Leaving for Full Moon resort this weekend - can't wait. The Maldives are paradise on earth and we don't care what work is being done! Stayed on Kurumba and Bandos in the last 2 years and both were stunning. As for the Kuoni complaint - you must be one of very few who have had a problem. They have advised us of the work being done on Full Moon and we can change if we want, but I know they have had product managers out there in the last couple of weeks - so wouldn't be letting anyone go there if there was a chance of unhappy customers. Went with Kuoni to Kurumba and couldn't fault them - and so far can't fault them this time - it isn't there fault if work has been delayed, they don't own the resort! Hope I don't eat my words when we arrive on Monday though!! Anyway - to those who haven't been before - you will love it. Any news on the weather out there at the mo?

Comment: Sam, Sorry to hear about your problems with KUONI. I have travelled all over the world using them with nothing less than excellent service. One problem we encountered this year in the Maldives was due to Universal Resorts, but was resolved by KUONI with no questions asked, and with a very generous financial compensation which I hadn't even asked for. We have stayed at Maldives resorts not run by Universal, (e.g. Athuruga Island) and I've got to say that I think they are better managed. I'm not making excuses for KUONI - they are a big enough organisation to defend themselves, and if they are to blame then it's a poor show, but I think they are getting a lot of problems just now with Universal. Anyway, hope your big day goes well!

Comment: My fiance & I are due to get married in SriLanka followed by honeymoon in the Maldives departing on 11th Nov. We decided to book everything with Kuoni because they seem to be market leaders in overseas weddings, I wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible. They have been terrible, I had been waiting to hear conformation from them as to the exact date of the wedding, they were taking so long I was getting worried because I have guest coming, so they need to book flights, hotels etc..I phoned them repeatedly for the date and they said that they hadn't heard from the hotel yet and would phone me the next day to update me. I decided I couldn't wait much longer so I phoned the hotel in SriLanka, they were brilliant. They passed me straight onto the hotels weddings co-ordinator would told me exactly what date & time the wedding would be. Kuoni never phoned the next day, I decided to see how long it would take them to tell me. 3 weeks go by, in this time I have been in contact with the hotel by e-mail, they were extremely prompt in responding to any queries I had. Eventually I phoned Kuoni (incidentally, every time I phone them I am kept on hold for several minutes), who told me that they knew the wedding date a couple of weeks before and someone should have contacted me by phone and sent it in writing. No one did. Then the next day I get informed that on Full Moon where I was due to stay in Maldives was being refurbished & half the island will be cordened off. Banging, tiling, sanding from 8am-11pm!? And the spa & gym will be out of use! I'm supposed to be on my honeymoon! So I phone Kuoni to make alternate arrangments, am passed to 3 separate departments and finally get to speak to someone after half an hour on hold! So I have now had to give up my water bungalow at Full Moon, for a standard room at Karumba, which is apparently the same price? Anyway, got a call from Kuoni this morning telling be that my flight to SriLanka will no longer be direct, and I will now have to make a stop over. What's going to be next?? They clearly have been keeping information to themselves and only telling me at the last minute about refurb, flights etc. In conclusion I have found Kuoni to be awful to deal with & I wish I had not used them and booked everything myself. Would have saved alot of money to. Has anyone recently come back from Kurumba Village? Anything I should know? What's a typical price for drinks, beer, bottled water..etc? Also we are both vegetarians, is there much choice for food? Any feedback greatly appreciated. We will be there from 24th Nov-1 Dec; anyone going to be there same time?

Comment: We will be visiting Baros at the end of Nov-beginning of Dec. Any information regarding this island would be appreciated. Weather, prices, (water, drinks, wine, lunch etc), re ongoing construction work etc. Also I wonder if we can buy tax free alcohol at our departure airport and bring it along? I have heard that all luggage is searched and if alcohol is found it will be kept until the time of departure- is this true? Thanks in advance!
